How self storage can help when you move in together
Moving in together is a big step: it’s exciting and it’s a sign that your relationship is moving on to another level. It can also be a time of tension as you both adjust to each other’s routines and ways of doing things!
On a practical level, you might struggle to agree how to furnish your home. You will probably both own furniture, furnishings and personal possessions and it can be difficult (and a tad awkward) to agree on what should stay and what should go. personal sentimental value.

Duplicate items
If you both own, say, beds and wardrobes, you probably won’t need them all when you first move in together. You could sell them, but bear in mind that in the near future you might extend your family and may even move into a larger home. At that point, you may need that spare furniture for your children or to equip extra rooms.
If your duplicate items are of decent quality, it may well be cheaper to store them in a self storage unit until you need them, rather than sell them and have to buy replacements at a later date. Meanwhile, you can move your belongings into a clean, dry unit and you can purchase packaging/protectors to help protect your things as you store them for as long as you like.
A matter of taste
Deciding how to furnish your first home together can be quite a delicate process — your tastes may differ, and you might both have different opinions on which possessions you should keep and which ones should go. It’s much easier (and more diplomatic) to suggest that your other half’s belongings should go into storage than that they should go into the bin!
Over time, you’ll fill your home with belongings that you’ve both chosen together, replacing items that you once owned separately. At that point, the furnishings that you’ve agreed to keep in storage might be safely disposed of without hurting anyone’s feelings because they’ve been successfully replaced with items you both like.
