Self Storage Contracts
At Safestore, we offer three contract types so you can pick the one that suits your plans. Your contract will determine your notice period, how you're billed and how discounts are applied.
We'll discuss your options when you book so you can pick the right contract for your storage needs. If your circumstances change after signing, speak to your store team about switching to a different contract type.
Variable Contract
A variable contract covers any period under 2 weeks. You can vacate your storage unit at any time without giving notice. Please note that billing is subject to a 1 week minimum invoice period. Even if you store for a few days, you'll be billed for a minimum of one week.
Flexible Contract
For stays with no fixed end date, a flexible contract covers any period over 2 weeks. Any storage offers available at your chosen store apply automatically to these contracts. You can end a flexible contract at any point, provided you give 14 days written notice. Flexible contracts have a 4 week minimum invoice period.
Fixed Contract
Best for customers who know they need storage long-term. A fixed contract is a commitment of 1 year or more. By agreeing to a set term upfront, you give up the freedom to leave at short notice, but in return you receive a lower, locked-in rate for the entire duration.
The discounted rate is agreed when you sign, so even if standard storage prices rise during your contract, your rate won't. For example, store for 12 months and you'll receive a discount starting from 20% off, with larger savings available depending on the store and the length of your term.
Student Contracts
Created for maximum flexibility
With student contracts, you pay upfront for your whole stay instead of on a recurring cycle, so there's no minimum invoice period to think about. If you need to prolong your stay, just let us know before your contract ends and we'll sort out an extension for you.
Ending your fixed contract early
If you need to vacate your unit before your agreed fixed contract term is up, the discounted rate you received was guaranteed in exchange for that commitment, so it will no longer apply. You'll need to settle any difference between the discounted rate you've been paying and the standard rate for the period you actually stored.
If there's a chance you may need to leave early, we'd strongly recommend speaking to your store team before signing a Fixed contract, or choosing a Flexible contract instead.
Which storage contract is right for you?
Variable
Ideal if you only need storage for a short period or may need to vacate your unit at short notice.
Flexible
Best if you're storing for more than two weeks and want the freedom to leave without a long term commitment.
Fixed
Perfect if you know you'll need storage for at least a year and want to secure the best available rate.
Thinking of changing your storage contract? Let us know.
If your situation changes, you can move to a contract that suits you better. Just give us 14 days' notice, and make sure you've met the minimum term on your current contract. Any minimum term on your new contract starts from your switch date.
