How does NCR Ltd use self storage?

NCR Ltd not only invents and designs the sort of technology we rely on to do our shopping and banking, but they also manufacture the equipment needed to allow us to access that technology, such as self-service checkouts. This equipment needs to be stored somewhere safe, clean and dry and, importantly, it needs to be easily accessible so that it can be delivered to customers whenever required. 

James Addinall, a Senior Engineer at NCR, realised that there was a need for a storage location local to their base in Barking and Dagenham. The company has been using remote storage locations all over the country but they really needed somewhere more local to use as a base for their RICO courier services to pick up and drop off the equipment made and maintained by NCR Ltd. 

We were able to provide secure storage within budget, and initially NCR Ltd took out a room of 16 sq ft. This has since expanded to 25 sq ft and is used by up to 40 engineers as a stock location, and NCR Ltd also have use of a second room for work overflow and personal items. 

What NCR Ltd thinks of Safestore

Mr Addinall says, “When I am working out in the field, it really wouldn’t be convenient for me to have to wait at the office for tracked deliveries to arrive. The staff at Safestore can accept deliveries on my behalf and store them safely until I can collect them. Recently, the generous use of Safestore's car park and loading bay has enabled us to expedite our audit of vehicle stock, with the result that this task took just 7 weeks compared to the normal 16 weeks. Safestore saved us a great deal of time by providing us with car parking spaces, loading bays and trolleys, and by having such helpful staff on hand to help.”
